Their Stories . . . Our stories

Contained on this page are the stories of several of those 3,900 individuals to be on the Memorial.  It shouldn't be forgotten that with every name comes a story.  Also noted is their address at the time of enlistment.

World War II shaped the lives of so many.  Transforming everyday people into extraordinary patriots; soldiers, sailors, marines, nurses, medics, riveters, sheet metal workers and more.  Their experiences as individuals were different yet so very similar to all others.  Ultimately, as with a photo album, their stories become our stories, become future generations' stories.

Joe Poster

403 South St. Pottstown

Weighing in at 180 pounds, he had the unfortunate occurrence of becoming a Prisoner of War in the Pacific Theater.  For three-and-a-half years he was tortured and mistreated.  Among hundreds who died on what is now called the Bataan Death March, Mr. Poster survived.  When finally freed he weighed a mere 82 pounds.
